History
S.W.COLE Explorations, LLC (S.W.COLEx), was formed in 2014 and we added our first rig in 2015 to provide test boring exploration services. Though originally founded to serve S. W. Cole Engineering projects, the firm expanded with a second rig in 2015 and in 2016 acquired three more rigs amongst the assets of the former Great Works Test Boring of Rollinsford, NH, and we began working for other clients. In 2022 we acquired the assets of Allstate Drilling of Riverside, Rhode Island. Our clients include geotechnical, environmental, civil, and structural engineering firms, architects, contractors, industrial plants, colleges, utilities, municipalities, and state and federal agencies,
The company services projects throughout New England from three locations and is led by a team of seasoned professionals. The Drilling Operations Manager of S.W.COLEx is Eric Baron, P.E. Our drill crew teams are led by qualified, experienced drillers who have each worked in the region for over 20 years.

Our Equipment
S.W.COLEx purchased two new Diedrich D-50 rubber track mounted drill rigs in 2015. These all-purpose rigs can be used for both soil and rock exploration using hollow stem augers, continuous flight augers, steel casing with rotary tools and core drilling tools. The rigs are rated up to 250’ depth with hollow stem or continuous flight augers and 1,000 linear feet of core drilling using N series tools.
In 2016, to help in meeting the demand for drilling services in the region, S.W.COLEx acquired the drilling equipment of Great Works Test Boring, Inc., including three additional rigs. This included a Mobile B-53 track mounted rig, a CME 850 track mounted rig, and an Acker drilling rig mounted on a Ford F-350 truck. With the addition of Allstate Drilling we added an additional truck mounted Acker drilling rig, tooling and equipment.
We also have support equipment available, including a Yanmar Rubber Track Support vehicle. Our assorted tooling includes 2”, 3”, 4”, 5” and 6” casing, 2 ¼”, 4 ¼”, 6” hollow stem augers, rods, rock core barrels, piston samplers and wireline casing.
Our rigs are typically transported to project sites on 20-ton trailers that are towed with medium duty Peterbilt, Kenworth or International trucks.
